Did you know that Croatian passport is a unique one as it is the only blue passport out of 27 EU burgundy red passports. The Croatian passport meets all the biometric conditions defined by the EU and it has been issued since June 29, 2009. One may argue that the reasons behind staying loyal to the dark shade of blue is the county’s distinctiveness from the communist red past. In its fight for its independence a lot of red blood has been spilt and it is understandable why blue was chosen as a preference color for Croatian passport.
I wonder what other famous Croatians would have their say on the matter. Did you know that modern day pen was invented by a Croat named Slavoljub Penkala, the word pen was derived from the first three letters of the inventor’s surname. Did you know that the famous inventor of electricity Nikola Tesla was born in Croatia in the province of Lika to Serb parents, not far away Plitvice National Park. The saying goes that young Nikola was drawn to waterfalls and was saying that one day the water would make big changes to our lives. And it did bring us water turbines producing electricity.
Every country has its did you know stories and that is one of the many reasons why people like coming to King’s Landing alias Croatian city of Dubrovnik and hopefully will continue coming to Dubrovnik and Croatia once George Lucas films Star Wars in this “may the beauty be with you” of a town.
